1. The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.2. Abraham was the father of Isaac; and Isaac was the father of Jacob; and Jacob was the father of Judas and his brothers;3. And Judas was the father of Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares was the father of Esrom; and Esrom was the father of Aram;
1. Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,2. Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.3. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
1. In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,2. And saying, Repent you: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.3. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
1. Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.2. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered.3. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If you be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
1. And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came to him:2. And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,3. Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
1. Take heed that you do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise you have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.2. Therefore when you do your alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.3. But when you do alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand does:
1. Judge not, that you be not judged.2. For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.3. And why behold you the mote that is in your brother’s eye, but consider not the beam that is in your own eye?
1. When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.2. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.3. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be you clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
1. And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.2. And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said to the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; your sins be forgiven you.3. And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemes.
1. And when he had called to him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.2. Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;3. Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
1. And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed there to teach and to preach in their cities.2. Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,3. And said to him, Are you he that should come, or do we look for another?
1. At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungered, and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat.2. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, Behold, your disciples do that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath day.3. But he said to them, Have you not read what David did, when he was an hungered, and they that were with him;
1. The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.2. And great multitudes were gathered together to him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.3. And he spoke many things to them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
1. At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,2. And said to his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him. ¶3. For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.
1. Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,2. Why do your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.3. But he answered and said to them, Why do you also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
1. The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven.2. He answered and said to them, When it is evening, you say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.3. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O you hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky; but can you not discern the signs of the times?
1. And after six days Jesus takes Peter, James, and John his brother, and brings them up into an high mountain apart,2. And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.3. And, behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking with him.
1. At the same time came the disciples to Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?2. And Jesus called a little child to him, and set him in the middle of them,3. And said, Truly I say to you, Except you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
1. And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;2. And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. ¶3. The Pharisees also came to him, tempting him, and saying to him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
1. For the kingdom of heaven is like to a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard.2. And when he had agreed with the laborers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.3. And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
1. And when they drew near to Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, to the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,2. Saying to them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway you shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them to me.3. And if any man say something to you, you shall say, The Lord has need of them; and straightway he will send them.
1. And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables, and said,2. The kingdom of heaven is like to a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,3. And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
1. Then spoke Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,2. Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:3. All therefore whatever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not you after their works: for they say, and do not.
1. And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to show him the buildings of the temple.2. And Jesus said to them, See you not all these things? truly I say to you, There shall not be left here one stone on another, that shall not be thrown down. ¶3. And as he sat on the mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the world?
1. Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened to ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.2. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.3. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
1. And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples,2. You know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.3. Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, to the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
1. When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:2. And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. ¶3. Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
1. In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher.2. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.3. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
