Repentance is a profound and essential aspect of the Christian faith, serving as a bridge that reconnects us with God when we have strayed from His path. It is an act of turning away from sin and turning towards God with a contrite heart. In prayer, repentance involves acknowledging our sins, seeking God's forgiveness, and committing to live according to His will. Below is a prayer for repentance that incorporates scriptural references and reflects a deep yearning for God's mercy and transformation.

Prayer for Repentance

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a heart weighed down by the burden of my sins. I acknowledge that I have strayed from Your ways and have fallen short of Your glory. Your Word tells us, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23, NIV). I confess that I am among those who have sinned, and I am in need of Your grace and mercy.

Lord, I am truly sorry for the ways I have disobeyed You. I confess my sins to You now, knowing that "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, NIV). I lay my sins at Your feet, asking for Your forgiveness and cleansing.

Father, I repent of the times I have put my own desires above Your will. I repent of the times I have spoken harshly, acted selfishly, and harbored bitterness in my heart. I repent of the times I have neglected to show love and compassion to those around me. I repent of the times I have failed to seek You in prayer and study Your Word. I repent of the times I have allowed pride, envy, and anger to take root in my heart.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10). Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin (Psalm 51:2). I long to be made whole and to walk in the light of Your truth.

Lord Jesus, I thank You for the sacrifice You made on the cross for my sins. Your blood was shed so that I might be forgiven and reconciled to the Father. I am reminded of Your words, "It is finished" (John 19:30, NIV), signifying that You have paid the full price for my redemption. I place my trust in Your finished work and accept the forgiveness You offer.

Holy Spirit, I invite You to work in my heart and transform my life. Help me to turn away from sin and to live in a manner that is pleasing to God. Guide me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake (Psalm 23:3). Empower me to resist temptation and to walk in obedience to God's commands.

Lord, I pray for the strength to make amends where I have wronged others. Give me the courage to seek forgiveness from those I have hurt and to extend forgiveness to those who have wronged me. Your Word teaches us, "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you" (Colossians 3:13, NIV). Help me to live out this command in my daily life.

Father, I commit to turning away from the patterns of sin that have entangled me. I ask for Your guidance and wisdom as I seek to live a life that honors You. I know that I cannot do this in my own strength, but I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).

Lord, I thank You for Your unfailing love and mercy. I thank You for the promise that "as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us" (Psalm 103:12, NIV). I am grateful for the fresh start You offer and the hope that is found in You.

I pray all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, my Savior and Lord.

Amen.
